In a recently published report (December of 2007) the Governor has put together a comprehensive plan to eradicate methamphetamine use in Nevada.

While methamphetamines are a big problem in Las Vegas so are prescription drugs and alcohol.

There is a better then one in five chance that someone close to you is abusing drugs or alcohol in Las Vegas. It may be your doctor (10 to 15 percent of doctors have drug or alcohol problem), a teacher, plumber or a friend.

With a population of 535,000 people in Las Vegas at least 40,000 have used methamphetamines in their lifetime.

Methamphetamines use plagues high schools in every grade, 10% of freshmen have tried it and nearly 13% of seniors have used it at least once in their lifetime.

In Nevada and Las Vegas total lifetime use would run into the hundreds of thousands of people.

In some families the use of methamphetamines goes back four generations.

Alcohol abuse

Alcohol rehab is probably needed by 10% of the population as a whole, with the largest category being the 18 to 26 year olds. That group has a rate of binge drinking approaching 40% and 20% say they depend on alcohol to get through the day.

Prescription drugs

One in 10 high school students have used Vicodin for non medical purposes and nearly 6% of the entire population uses prescription drugs for non medical reasons. The numbers for prescription drug abuse are rising and the need for prescription drug rehab will increase over the years.
