Drug Rehab Can Help Out of Control Drug Abuse by Maine's Young People

Whether it's cocaine, methamphetamine, heroine or just "plain-old" marijuana, the young people of Maine aren't having any trouble getting drugs. And things don't seem to be easing up. A good state-wide program for drug rehab in Maine would help get things under control.

Of kids in the 12 to 17-year-old range, 18% smoked marijuana in the last year and 12% smoked it in the last month. 5% took other illegal drugs in the past month as well.

That's a lot of young kids getting high, and they're setting themselves up for a ruined life if they don't get into a drug rehab program.

Marijuana, sometimes thought of as "not too bad", has effects that are completely disregarded and misunderstood. Some experts say marijuana increases the risk of cancer by almost five times, that it can continue to create harmful effects long after use, and can even affects sperm cells.

If 18% of 12-17 year-olds is smoking marijuana, that's almost 150,000 people, how are we to expect good grades, good behavior and general moral conduct from the youth of Maine?

In addition to that, if 12% are smoking each month, then there is almost a guarantee that your child will be exposed to it while in school. And he will no doubt have friends that smoke it, and be offered some.

While your kid may not take them up on it, it's obvious from the statistics that many have – nearly 1 in 5, in fact. I'm sure many of those parents also thought their kids would never do anything like that. But it can be hard to resist. And once that resistance has been broken through, there's a good chance it will continue.

If it does, there's also a good chance they'll be exposed to other drugs - heroin, cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, methamphetamine, and who knows what else – the drugs that the 5% of the 12-17 year-olds are doing. That's about 1 to 3 people in each child's middle school class – there's very little chance of avoiding contact with a user.

Also, there's a good chance that that 5% started with marijuana – which is why it's called the ‘gateway drug.' If 12% of kids smoked marijuana in the last month, and 5% took other drugs, it looks like about of the kids may have opened that gateway and walked through. It's also likely that at least half of them already need to find a good drug rehab in Maine.

What can you do about it? The most effective prevention is teaching your kids about drugs and drug abuse. Include all the drugs – you'll have to educate yourself in the process - and don't be afraid to show them some videos about what drug addicts can go through. And make sure you include lots of statistics and some real life examples of good people with good futures that were ruined with drugs and alcohol.

If your child already has a problem with drug abuse, get them into drug rehab right away. A good drug rehab program will ensure they get the help they need now – before you're scared for their life. Find a good drug rehab program in Maine now, and get them straightened out.
